The procedure
ACER recruits its staff in line with the provisions of the Staff Regulations and the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants, the applicable implementing rules and according to the
Director Decision on the Rules of Procedure for the selection of Temporary and Contract Staff of ACER.
All of ACER’s selection procedures are advertised on the ACER website. Approved selection notices are published for at least three calendar weeks before the closing date for applications.
Applicants shall apply with their CVs and motivation letters on the given functional email address. Applications received after the deadline or those which do not comply with the instructions contained in the selection notice shall not be considered valid for the selection procedure.
Within the Agency, a Selection Committee is appointed which is composed of at least three members and might be complemented by additional members. One member is apoointed from the recruiting Department, one member from the Administration Department and one member upon a proposal of the Staff Committee. Any additional member shall be appointed from another Department of the Agency.
The Selection Committee assesses each application and conclude on their validity against the eligibility and the selection criteria identified in the selection notice and select the most suitable applicants in an objective, impartial and transparent manner. Selected applicants will be invited to a written examination and an oral interview.
Interview and written test
Invitations to the interview and written test are sent to the e-mail indicated in the application. The interview is held in English, but the knowledge of other languages may also be tested. Native English speakers can also expect to be requested to prove their second language skills. The written test is anonymised and is conducted also in English.
The duration of the written test is between 30 and 60 minutes followed by 30 to 60 minutes interview with the appointed Selection Committee. The duration of both parts of the examination are communicated to the candidates invited to the interview for each position.
Candidates invited for an interview, and/or to a medical examination, may be entitled to financial contribution to or reimbursement of their travel and subsistence expenses. No contribution towards expenses shall be granted to a candidate in case the distance between the place of residence or the place of current employment, as indicated in the candidate’s application, and the place of the written examination and the oral interview, as specified in the letter of invitation issued by the Agency, is less than 200 km.
Reserve list and offer letter
Candidates who achieved a mark equal to or higher than 70 points out of 100 or 70% of the total points will be placed on a reserve list, drawn up by the Agency. Reserve lists are valid until the end of the current calendar year and may be renewed upon decision of the Director in the interest of the service.
Placement on the reserve list does not guarantee receipt of an offer letter or recruitment.
It should be noted that the selection process may take several months to be completed and that no information other than the status on current selection procedures will be released during this period. All the candidates will be informed about the outcome of the recruitment procedure.

Careers at ACER are open to nationals of the 27 European Union Member States. Candidates shall be entitled to their full rights as citizens, should have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the applicable laws concerning military service and be physically fit to perform the duties linked to the post.
All applications are screened against the eligibility criteria set in the selection notice.
To be considered eligible, the candidates must meet the required eligibility criteria:
- Level of education, as defined in the selection notice (Only study titles that have been awarded in EU Member States or that are subject to the equivalence certificates issued by the authorities in the said Member States shall be taken into consideration);
- Professional experience, if required for the specific post (after obtaining the required level of education);
Other general requirements.
Only applications
- enclosing a detailed curriculum vitae in European CV format in English, indicating for which profile the application is made;
- enclosing a letter of motivation (1 page maximum) in English;
- sent before the closing date
will be accepted.
Applicants failing to fulfil the above criteria will be excluded from the selection procedure.
Spontaneous applications
The Agency receives a high number of spontaneous applications, however, they will not be considered. Only applications sent to the relevant functional mailbox before the closing time of an open selection procedure are accepted.
